Here’s an abridged version…
DO NOT EAT:
1. canned tomatoes
2. corn-fed beef
3. microwave popcorn
4. non-organic potatoes
5. farmed salmon
6. milk produced with artificial hormones
7. non-organic apples
zing! she brings up an interesting point. curious what other vegan folx think…
is she setting up a false dichotomy? if not, someone please direct me to a large-scale labor movement that entails not eating corporate produce. i’m not even an “animal labor” type of vegan, but looking at some of the responses to this image, i’m wondering how one type of self-righteousness can win over another. that said, i’m sure that there are certain modes of being vegan, where one benefits from non-animal exploitation, be it in environmental or human form. no person is a saint; we can only try to be better people for each other, for the world, and for ourselves…but i’ll stop here, before i break into kumbaya.

PETA ad: Boyfriend Went Vegan
I’ve been waiting to write about this all day. This is fucking stupid. And fucking fucked up.
First it has nothing to do with veganism. This is not how you make people become vegan. People become vegan when they learn about how shitty we treat animals and decide they don’t want to be a part of that.
Second, the ad is at the surface making a joke about the sexual superpowers of vegans. However, it is also clearly referencing domestic violence, poking fun at that. Sorry PETA, that shit isn’t funny. What. the. fuck. were you thinking?
As you know, PETA has a history of producing extremely misogynistic ads. Hasn’t someone mentioned to them that all forms of oppression are harmful and fucked up?
It does occur to me that they do this shit just to make idiots like me blog about it, drum up more conversation etc. But in reality, it just makes everyone hate them even more. There’s enough to talk about as it is, given how ignorant so many people are to the suffering of animals.
Another member of my university’s veg society suggested that PETA is actually run by the meat industry, just to make everyone hate vegans and veganism(After all, where do they get the money to make shit like this?). Can we please make that a rumor in an effort to discredit them for good?
I stand against all forms of oppression. That’s why I’m vegan and why I’m a feminist. FUCK PETA.
I’ve been eating vegan for slightly over a month now, and in that time have discovered a lot of delicious vegan junk food. Since this experiment is really about building a plant-based diet instead of finding alternatives to non-vegan junk food, I’m really gonna cut back in the next month, but I still wanted to take the time to share some of my favorite discoveries.
1.
Go Raw Pizza Flax Snax
My favorite savory snack so far!
2.
Purely Decadent Cookie Dough Ice Cream
The combination of coconut milk and soy milk in this ice cream, makes it creamy and delicious, though probably not as healthy as a soy free base.
3.
So Delicious Mint Chip Ice Cream
The soy free, coconut milk base gives it a bonus point, but I’m not really feeling the combination of mint and coconut, maybe chocolate would have been better…
Runner-Ups:
Whole Foods in house mixed veggie chips & dried okra (Kinda salty, but enjoyable.)
Beanfields Beans and Rice Chips (Salt and Pepper flavor is nice…)
Vegan Queso by Food for Lovers (Spicier than I expected…)
Southwestern Cheezy Kale Chips (Local brand, forgot the name…)
…Once I get a dehydrator, it is so game on.
